Journey Report 1959

Excellent; particularly liked the first impressions of Spain :D

Thanks for posting that gem of a trip report.

After loads of trips I've come to the conclusion the best numbers for a trip are either solo or three people.

I wonder if any UKGSers would be interested in joining The 153 Club (Sahara) which includes both Morocco and the Sahara within its field of interest. Its collective experiences of wonderful independent travels across the Sahara, mostly in the '60s and '70s, is a real treasure. Please have a look at the club's website - http://www.the153club.org/153join.html

The 153 is quite small scale, I still have the Michelin map of Morocco I used in 1972, can't remember the number offhand, but some of the annotations are still valid today.

It's interesting what roads are missing, for example, no link between Marrakech and Agadir, whereas today there's both the National Route and Autoroutes.

I was quite surprised by the amount of asphalt the 1959 guys managed to find. When we went over the Test pass it was piste, similarly roads into Goulimine.

Just arrived, I do like taking a little time looking over maps...

Thanks for the prompt there, I will be applying. Mine is a 953 and well used. I have at least one more copy somewhere with water and fuel noted on it in the more remote areas, must try and find it (though the info will be a bit out of date to say the least, as will be the safe routes)
