Next year we will probably be going to Spain for 18 months or more. I'd like to take the bike over rather than sell it and buy another in Spain. I know I can take it over and get it ITV'd and put on Spanish plates, but that's an expense I'd rather not go through as the bike will be coming back to the UK.

So, is it possible to insure a UK bike on UK plates in Spain either with a Spanish or UK company?

The easy answer is yes. Where in Spain are you going to ? On the CDS there are plenty of insurance brokers that specialise in ex pat vehicles. You English however seem to have issues with MOT certs :augie. Irish bikes dont have or need a test, will an out of date MOT bother you ? Also be aware that Traffico are keeping an eye out for vehicles on foreign plates to see if they exceed the six month rule.

Without looking it all up cos its a bit cloudy at the mo. If you intend to live in Spain for so many days of the year. You say at least 18 months. You are entitled to re register a vehicle here free of import tax providing you do it within 60 days of arriving, registering for residencia. If you cant do the paperwork a Gestor will do it for about euros 300. Do a search for expats in Spain and check out the various forums. As regards insurance then yes you can get minimal or fully comp ins from UK companys based here even if you dont have a UK MOT or road tax. Mind you Traffico will still do for those infingments. Edit....And of course you will need to change the headlamp.
