hi anyone know if you can upload route waypoint to the nuvi 550..?? ....read the other threads here and no def' answers yet??....thinking of gettting one rather than the zumo.....

cheers

I agree it's unclear. The manual seems to indicate that you could plan a route on Mapsource, download it onto a micro-SD card, pop the card in the slot and read the route.

There are only a few threads in this section, and one of them has the answer. It even has an image of the relevant page;)

To save you the troube; the answer is 'yes.' However, the Nuvi 550 does not come with Mapsource, so you will have to have an original copy of that software. Furthermore, although you can download waypoints from an older version of mapping, ideally you would need to get hold of a 2009NT upgrade disc to have the same mapping on your PC and the Nuvi. You can 'upload' your 25-letter unlock code from your unit into Mapsource (or Routetrip on the Mac) so that the upgrade mapping is 'released' (unlocked) on the pc.

No need to do it this way. Just use a USB cord as per all the other units.

Have just used Nuvi 550 for first time on 1700 mile trip to SOF and back.

Very impressed,it never lost satellite reception even in the odd city I rode through.

Very quick to recalc.

Battery life was 6 or 7 hours tops but with screen resolution turned right down to 10 or 20%.

I've just ordered a spare battery, for when I use it again on bikes other than GSA (which is wired up to battery).

All in all a bloody bargain for a smidge over £200.

Half the price of Zumo 550,same size screen, and half the bulk.
