Looks a good bike . Mossy certainly likes it .
The GSX8S seems to be favoured over the new Hornet and I reckon this Strom may well be better than the new Transalp .

I liked the way it rode and handled
So i bought one (y)

Yes
It's a lot better than i thought it would be
Traded my 1050 XT for it
it's not as good as the T7 off road but better on and not a lot slower than the 1050 and much more chuckable

I've just ridden 135 miles today on a rented '21 DL650 with some 6500 miles on the clock. It was below expectations.

It went well enough for a 650 but the brakes, suspension and ergonomics were all poor.

Had a couple of hours to kill this afternoon so demo’d a new Vstrom 800 around the Surrey lanes for 90 minutes courtesy of those nice people at Bulldog Suzuki.

First impressions- very comfy riding position and feels light and manoeuvrable.
Nice controls , great quick shifter and the stand out feature - that motor . It’s amazing . So much grunt at any revs.
In sixth it’s got plenty of shove from as little as 3000 rpm and redline is 9500 !
I can see why so many reviews have preferred it to the Transalp !!
Less peak power (82 v 92 ish ) but MUCH more shove where you need it in the midrange . It’ll even make the CP2 Yamaha motor feel a tad asthmatic!

Feels just fine if you need to stand on the pegs ( arriving at Dent ).
I’m 6 ‘1” and wouldn’t need bar risers .

Brakes were good and the handling on the 21/18 wheels was very planted with nice compliant suspension ironing out the worst potholes .

Negatives ?

Only two .

The screen is crap . Very noisy at speed . I think it’s just a bit too tall as you don’t get clean air over your torso .
Either needs virtually no screen or a tall screen , which is an option .
Same issue on Transalp yet I rode for a decade on a KTM950SE with the smallest screen and it was great .

The other issue is the seat .
After 90 minutes my arse was uncomfortable. But it was 30 degs c and I was wearing normal jeans so might have not helped the issue .

But overall a cracking bike and the engine is the star .

Bigger screen and a comfort seat and I could see myself getting one . But not yet .

Bigger screen and slightly wider seat and that would be very tempting. I always liked the 650 Vee twin, one of the most under rated little adv bikers out there, so expect this to be a belter.

Liking that apart from the headlight and not a biggi but the front calliper and lines look a bit retro/cheapo in 2023. Suzuki quality has always been a bit average but i always used to like em.

Two of the main things for that type of bike are screen and seat given its likely purpose, so that could be a dealbreaker for a lot of people

I thought the same today when I popped into Padgetts in Batley.

Radial calipers on the 1050 and those crappy efforts on the 800. The GSX8S has nissin radials so don't see why the 800 'strom wouldn't.

They'll probably say "feel" given the style of bike or some other bullshite.

I like it but if I was buying one, I’d go for the RE with the 19” front wheel and mag wheels, but that’s just my personal taste. Out of the competition, while I like the Yamaha and the Honda looks pretty damn good, my money would go to Suzuki.

You'll be seeing one of the steel green RE ones around your neck of the woods, one of the Rospa tutors picked it up today, she loves it.

I call FRAUD.
How can they call it a V Strom? I know, they can call it whatever they like, but the V- strom is named such for a reason. With the parallel twin, surely it is a P-strom.

I much preferred the wee vee 650 to the 800DE I tried. But then I am a wimp.

I just purchased a 2024 V-Strom 800 RE (yesterday), picking up the bike on Tuesday after accessories are installed. Looking forward to my new ride.
