New year, new project bike

Thanks Fok, I was just interested in what you thought of it because I’ve never seen or heard one in the flesh. Meanwhile though I’ve ordered one because I need the end can to be able to finish building the subframe. Keen to hear what you think of them though

More progress on the subframe this afternoon, firstly a bit of fine tuning on the shortening of the r100gs subframe which I’d done roughly while I was waiting on Mikey finishing the motor, then I fab’d the rear rack which will have a plate on top for the leather tool case. Waiting on the gletter exhaust can to arrive next so I can fab the mounting for that before breaking out the welder Beer time

Started making some seat mounting brackets today, fiddly little job.

Then spotted that I need to change the crossmember on the subframe because there isn’t going to be enough clearance with the 18 x 4.00 tyre (the straight one at the back, needs replacing with a curved one). Not a big job but the subframe is turning out to be the most bespoke part of the build

Yes, but it needs to, the forward end of the mudguard was too low with the crossmember as it is

PM on the way

Sorry to see your nice welding and fabrication is wasted.

Like you, I'll need a modified subframe and in the quest for neatness, I would have wanted to do similar.

It’s not wasted, the straight cross member just needs cutting out and replaced with a curved one :okay

Ah okay. I was thinking of mike's beermat thread where the mudguard was right up into the seat.

Like this…

This is one of Mikey’s bikes from “Beer Matt drawings” is shows the rear mudguard

A bit more fabrication tonight, bracket for headlight pod, simple but time consuming

Looking great.

It's amazing how much time simple brackets and such like take. With the mudguard clearance I guess you are keeping the standard shock length and are not changing any other rear geometry so only need a little more than standard to account purely for tyre OD which is helpful to know.

Yes, I just need another 20mm clearance

More progress this evening, started by fitting a new pair of engine pins and a sidestand from motorenisrael. After that I fitted the headers and y piece (hattech) in readiness for the gletter end can arriving tomorrow (very excited about that), finally knocked up the curved crossmember I need to get an extra 20mm clearance for the bigger rear wheel (blimey I need a lie down after that lot - don’t know how Mikey does it every day at his age:D)

Question for you… where did you source the headers?

BMWBayer.de Used them a few times, really good service, just a shame about the post brexit rip off import charges that get applied when stuff arrives in the uk:mad:
